An Unhappy Habit

Skipping church is unhappy habit. There are sometimes valid reasons for missing church but we always need to make our best effort to be there. The book of Acts teaches about the beginnings of the church. If we don*t follow the example set by the early church, we need to mend our ways. Note how the believers habitually stuck together. It came naturally. If you are not a regular church attender, you are either an unnatural Christian or you are not a Christian at all. If you are a believer and you have not noticed how regularly associating with other believers is a taste of Heaven here on earth, I pity you. You must have your spiritual eyes and your heart tightly closed when you visit church.

Acts 1:14: These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

Acts 2:1: And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

Acts 2:42: And they continued stedfastly in the apostles* doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Acts 2:46: And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,

Acts 5:42: And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

Acts 20:7: And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

The believers coming together was commanded by the Lord Jesus just before He ascended into Heaven and in the book of Hebrews He commands us to stick to it. Being together was where they were endued with power from on high. Notice that when they obeyed Him they had great joy. No wonder they made a habit of it.

Luke 24:49-53: And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. 50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. 51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: 53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.

Hebrews 10:25: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
